"80 for Brady" is indeed based on a true story. A group of Tom Brady superfans called the "Over 80 for Brady" club, inspired the movie. The group consists of Elaine St. Martin, Betty Pensavalle, and their friends Anita, Pat, and Claire. The women became friends after they lost their spouses and started getting together on game days. They would rotate between each other's houses to watch the games. The ladies were such devoted fans that they created a club and named it "Over 80 for Brady." They even had matching shirts made, courtesy of Pensavalle's grandson, Max. Max, who works in Hollywood, pitched the idea for a movie about the fan club, and Tom Brady, who was a fan of the idea, produced and starred in the film. During an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, St. Martin and Pensavalle admitted to having a crush on Brady, calling him "handsome" and "gorgeous."
